OEM TUNE vs CUSTOM TUNE

I often get the question: "What makes your engines / tune better than stock or your competition".

Many "turnkey engine" suppliers ONLY turn the VATS (vehicle anti theft system) off and ship the engine.  OEM = RED LINES ON GRAPHS BELOW.

ALL of our engines ship with a Performance Tune and require 91 Octane fuel.  We can retain OEM spark tables if only 87 Octane is available.  The biggest downside to the OEM tune is the rpm limiter of 5700 AND the delay of PE (power enrichment).  PE can be roughly equated to the secondaries on a carburetor.  A common OEM GenIII tune requires 5500rpm, 55kpa vacuum, 100% calculated torque, AND a 60 sec Delay among several other parameters before PE can even be commanded.  How can you make good power when you have a REV Limit of 5700 and PE can not even be commanded until 5500 AND you need to hold it there for 60 Sec?  We change all of the PE settings, Spark Tables, VE Table (fuel), etc. to achieve our results.

Our Custom SD (speed density) tuning on a bone stock 6.0L LQ4 engine can be seen below.  BD SD Tune = BLUE.  Our tune picked up over 70HP & 30TQ over the stock tune.  Even when I only increased the REV Limit of the stock tune to 6000rpm we still gained over 40HP (Yellow Lines).  BUT the most noticeable change is how smooth the Power & Torque Curve became with our custom tune.  This makes for a very predictable & driveable experience.  We don't just turn the VATS off and ship an engine!
